Farkhondeh Sadegh was born in 1969. The first of the two Iranian women to reach the top of the world's highest mountain. On 30 May 2005, Farkhondeh Sadegh and Laleh Keshavarz made their long-awaited dream come true when they conquered the 8,850-meter high mountain, situated in eastern Nepal. Sadegh, designer by profession, was part of a 21-strong climbing team - 14 climbers, including 4 Nepalese Sherpas acting as their high-altitude guide - made it to the summit. Sadegh who has more than a decade of climbing experience under her belt and works as a part-time climbing instructor in Iran, has climbed in Nepal before. In 2001, she conquered the 7,161-meter-high Mount Pumori, but she knew that she wanted to reach higher. The Iranian team tacked Mount Everest from its southern side in Nepal using the same route as Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tensing - the first two people to set foot on the top of the world on 29 May 1953. Concurrent with the 'Woman, Life, Freedom' movement, Farkhondeh declared her support for the protesting people of Iran.
